Jonathan Jackson 1964-2004 |
| JONATHAN LAMONT JACKSON, age 39, was called home to be with the Heavenly Father on March 11, 2004.
Jonathan, known to many as "Bro," was born in Huntington, West Virginia, on August 19, 1964, to Geraldine Beatrice Jackson and the late Samuel Jonathan
Jackson. In 1996, Jonathan married the former Greta Boggs. Their union was blessed in 1999 by the birth of their son, Nicholas Samuel "Scooter" Jackson.
"Certain memories last forever." - Jonathan Jackson. Jonathan's most important memories were those of the times he spent alone talking with God. He said
that those times were his times of strengthening and refueling. Jonathan said, "I have yet to ask God for anything, having right motives and not received
it." Jonathan diligently studied the word of God and enthusiastically shared his faith with his family, friends and co-workers. He was always willing to
listen, encourage and give to those in need. Jonathan never met a stranger. He loved his family and friends and had and wonderful sense of humor. He was
an avid fisherman and loved sports, namely WVU football. Jonathan loved and appreciated nature and always took the time to marvel in God's glory. He would
often reflect on a trip he had taken with this mother and remembered how beautiful the fall leaves were along the hillsides that flanked the highway.
Jonathan treasured the memories of fishing along the bands of Mud River with his father, his grandfather, William "Buddy" Jackson, and cousin, the late
Michael Jackson. During his childhood, Jonathan spent a considerable amount of time at A.D. Lewis Boys Club, or "The Club" as he called it. One of his most
prized childhood memories was winning the Lincoln/Oley Football C Team Championship. He talked of being a child and feeling "10 feet tall" about winning
the championship. He often spoke of his childhood friends, fellow "club rats" (kids who frequented the Boys Club) Michael Morton and Jarrell Johnson.
Jonathan graduated with honors from Huntington High School in 1982 and went on to continue his education at West Virginia University, where he received
his degree in Civil Engineering. While at WVU, Jonathan excelled both academically and on the Debate Team. Jonathan with his debate partner, Victor Plante,
defeated several of the best debaters from West Point, Dartmouth and many other universities. Jonathan was a Civil Engineer, employed by the Huntington
District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He had worked in different divisions of the Corps, but was most recently working in the Programs and Project
Management office where he was the Project Manager of several projects and took pride in his work. He was a past president of the Huntington Chapter
of the American Society of Civil Engineers and was a skilled public speaker. He gave many memorable presentations during his years at the Corps. Jonathan
was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband and father and deeply loved all his family, but most of all, he loved the Lord. Jonathan leaves to cherish his
loving memories his wife Greta and son Nicholas. He is also survived by his mother, Geraldine Beatrice Jackson; his grandfather, William Jackson; and
three sisters, Angela René Mandola, Tara Michelle McKinney (Noah) and Tammy Bonita Jackson. Other survivors include his five nephews, two nieces, one
great-nephew, two great-nieces; a special brother-in-law, Noah McKinney; special friends, William R. Weekley, Derek W. Davis, J.T. Watkins, Rodney "Goody"
Goodson and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his father, Samuel Jonathan Jackson, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents,
Vivian and Hallie Rotan; his paternal grandmother, Lela Jackson; and his brother, Samuel Jackson Jr. "Little Sammy." All who knew Jonathan will sadly miss
him because he touched so many lives in so many ways. He used to sing a song with the lyrics, "Lord build me a cabin in the corner of Gloryland." Jonathan's
cabin is now occupied as he rejoices and dwells in Heaven. His time with us was short, but he is now receiving his reward in the arms of the Lord. Jonathan,
memories of you will last us a lifetime. |
